Panta rhei

In one drop of water there are more molecules than there are stars in our galaxy – a phenomenally large number! All these particles are continuously in motion; they bump into each other, blocking each others way. It is hardly imaginable that such a chaos could suddenly decide to conduct a synchronized motion. Yet there are conditions in which this mess of molecules turns into an orderly pattern by itself. When a liquid is being heated from below, the motion of molecules synchronizes itself to form patterns of flow similar to honey combs or the structure of cells.
